Fano Tourism Links ... These links are specific to the town of Fano, as well as the surrounding area. Most are sights that we've visited personally, or have strong local recommendations. As you'll see, there is plenty to do in and around the area. You can spend weeks or months exploring the Marche, Umbria, and Emilia-Romagna. These are just a sampling. Enjoy! For anyone with an interest in tourism related to nature and/or geology, Le Grotte di Frasassi should not be missed. Link to Le Grotte di Frasassi - CLICK HERE! Gradara - Tour of Gradara Castle. Situated at 142 metres above sea level, with the Republic of San Marino, Rimini, and Carpegna in the background, Gradara represents an extraordinary urban and architectural combination. A wonderful hill town and castle. This is another "don't miss" destination just minutes from Fano. Link to Gradara - CLICK HERE! Monte Giove - Monastery and retreat. Able to be seen from Fano, Monte Giove is a peaceful place to visit, especially during hot weather. Link to Monte Giove - CLICK HERE! Ristorante Symposium 4 Stagioni - World class culinary delights 15 minutes from Fano. The Symposium is one of the finest restaurants in Italy, if not the world. It's about a 15 minute drive from our apartment. It's pricey, but worth the expense. It will be a meal you'll remember and talk about the rest of your life. Take a long ... long ... lunch. Link to Ristorante Symposium - CLICK HERE! San Leo - Fantastic architecture, history, and views. Just another (yawn) classic castle and hill town just north of Fano right off the autostrada. Link to San Leo - CLICK HERE! Republic of San Marino - A country within a country, really. The history of the Republic starts in the year 301 A.D. Founded by a small community of Christians who were persecuted for their faith by the Emperor Diocletian. It is literally a country within a country, albeit only 61 square kilometers in size. Link to Replublic of San Marino - CLICK HERE! Urbino - The Ducal Palace of Urbino. Urbino, surely another hill town, is one more famous than others because of its Ducal Palace. Certainly a "must see", in addition to all of the other attractions of the area which are neatly displayed, in English, at this site. Link to Urbino - CLICK HERE! Sagre - Sagre, or "festivals" of the Marche. A listing of the various sagre, or "festivals" dedicated to the lifestyle, customs, and products typically found in the Marche region. Attending one or more of these (sagra in the singular for "festival") will be a highlight of any visit to Le Marche. You will be warmly welcomed by the local residents, perhaps with hand gestures and kisses if you don't speak Italian! So, what's wrong with that?
